Urban [W]rites is a volunteer project of Faithwalk, LLC. This project is dedicated to teaching multi-medium storytelling and creative entrepreneurship to those marginalized and disenfranchised to ensure their voices, stories, and talents are both heard and well compensated. Urban [W]rites achieve this goal through targeted skills building training, seasonal educational institutes, and strategic partnerships with such partners as the University of Michigan Prison Creative Arts Project (PCAP), Creative Many, as well as the Greater Detroit’s creative, community, and economic development industries. Founded by L. Michael Gipson, MS in 2017 as a volunteer project of Faithwalk, LLC, Urban [W]rites hopes to secure its independent 501(c)3 designation in 2018 to be able to begin receiving tax-deductible donations from dedicated supporters of this project’s work and vision. To deepen your support for the Urban [W]rites mission, you can make donations to the project through Faithwalk, LLC’s PayPal page. Donations at this time are not yet tax-deductible, but we are diligently working on developing a fiscal sponsorship through an established Detroit non-profit incubator for this important volunteer effort by the end of the year to change that status. In the meantime, your generous support for future training series reduces transportation access barriers for low-income or indigent students, writing tools for participants, software for graduates, and other project expenses for each 12-week creative writing and creative entrepreneurship training series. Each 12-week series for a full class of 15 graduating students is an estimated $1925.26 in total expenses, a small price to pay to help the disenfranchised restore their voice, tell their stories, and potentially earn a living or supplement their income through commercial narrative work.
